Gathering or scattering
The warehouse at the shipping docks was cold, smelling of salt and industrial grease. Long crates labeled for export lined the concrete floors. Under the glare of a single hanging bulb, Lucas, a sharp young logistics manager, was reviewing the manifests on his tablet.

Beside him stood Matthias, an older dockmaster whose rugged hands had loaded cargo in this port for forty years. Matthias was systematically checking the contents of a crate filled with unapproved, mixed-grain imports that violated the regional clean-trade statutes.

"Lucas, we aren't signing off on this shipment," Matthias said, locking the crate with a heavy iron latch. "It doesn't align with the ledger of the Governor. If we let this through, we are actively compromising the integrity of the entire network."

Lucas scoffed, tapping his screen impatiently. "Matthias, it's just one shipment. The corporate office told us to focus on the big picture. We’re still building the company, still bringing people in. A little compromise on the side-line regulations doesn't hurt. We’re still on the same team."

Matthias looked up, his deep-set eyes catching the harsh light. He set his crowbar down on the crate with a heavy, deliberate thud.

"Lucas, you think you can sit on the fence, but the Master left no room for middle ground," Matthias said, his voice echoing in the hollow space. "He didn't say we can compromise a little to build the numbers. He laid out a binary line."

Matthias reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, compact book of the Gospels, laying it flat on the crate between them. He pointed to the stark, unfiltered words of the Messiah:
"He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad." — Matthew 12:30

"Look at the choices, Lucas," Matthias continued, his voice steady and direct. "There is no third category. You are either actively gathering according to His precise instructions, or you are scattering. If you are building a system that ignores His statutes, you aren't helping Him—you are working against Him."

The Illusion of Grace: Teaching that a casual verbal belief is enough, bypassing the need for literal repentance.

"Think about the warning of the Apostles," Matthias explained, pointing down at the chart. "The Apostle John wrote with absolute candor: 'Whoever claims to live in him must live as Yeshua did.' Did Yeshua look for shortcuts? Did He compromise the Father's definitions of holiness to draw a bigger crowd? No. He gathered through truth.
Lucas shifted his weight, looking at the glowing manifest on his tablet. "But the modern teachers tell us that numbers mean success. If we enforce these rigid food laws, Sabbaths, and strict lifestyle standards, we’ll drive people away. We won't be able to gather anyone."

"Then you are gathering a counterfeit crop, Lucas," Matthias said firmly. "James wrote a terrifying diagnosis for those who think they can listen to the word without doing what it says: 'But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.' A gathering built on self-deception is just a crowd waiting to be scattered by the wind."

Matthias stepped closer, his gaze locked onto the young manager. "The scriptures do not bend to fit our marketing strategies. 'Anyone who doesn't obey the Son will never experience eternal life but will remain under God's angry judgment.' If your lifestyle and your teaching encourage people to turn a deaf ear to the commandments, you are a scatterer. You are working against the King."

The distant foghorn of an incoming ship blew, a long, somber note that signaled the end of the shift. Lucas looked at the text of Matthew twelve, then down at his tablet, the weight of the binary choice pressing heavily against his conscience. There was no gray area left.

Slowly, Lucas turned off the tablet and slid it into his pocket. He looked at Matthias, a sober, newfound resolve in his eyes.

"Alright," Lucas said quietly, picking up the marker to label the unapproved crate for rejection. "Let's clear the floor of the compromise. If we're going to build this house, let's build it exactly the way He commanded."
